I just tested the forthcoming TV output support by Lance Fetters (ashikase) a bit, and it’s awesome. One of the apps that I tried made me so LMAO that I had to show it: Teletekst.(*)
(* I was surprised to hear that in the US teletext isn’t used… huh? enlighten me in the comments please! For those who don’t know teletext: it is basically a text based news service on (teletext enabled) tv, where you use the channel selectors of the remote control to navigate to pages by 3 digit number, 100 is the ‘home page’, and it has ugly blocky three and a half or so bit graphics it seems. But it’s updated quite fast and the sources are typically more reliable than the average internet page, which makes it a good news and information medium for some purposes. The dutch public broadcasters also serve this up on the internet, and have much more recently also made a native iPhone app that gets you the same pages.
Now for the LMAO part, for those who hadn’t figured it out, let’s be explicit: THIS IS REDUNDANT!** But so much fun! I will post pics and vids later here, so keep posted! too busy now…
[edit/update:] So, here’s the vid:
(**) Unless you have a TV set that does have component / composite input but doesn’t have teletext, perhaps.
Oh and you can also do some cycordelica this way. Watch the wonkiness of my telerundfunking rig:
This is a simple classic trick to achieve psychedelic effects: set up one infinite loop with feedback between the camera and monitor displaying the live feed from the camera. Try varying angles and distances, change slowly.
